Informational:
St. Christopher is the Patron Saint of
Travelers and considered to be one of the "fourteen holy helpers"
amongst Roman Catholics. Saint Christopher holds patronage for all things of
travel and is considered to protect travelers from danger. Originally named
Reprobus, he vowed a life of Christianity to serve Jesus and sought out a
hermit to inquire how better to serve Jesus. Due to his large stature and
strength, the hermit directed Reprobus (Saint Christopher) to a swift river
where he could assist travelers across the dangerous waters. One day a small
boy needed help across the river and Reprobus happily agreed. However, this
small boy weighed more than any other passenger he had previously carried. That
boy revealed himself to Reprobus as Jesus Christ and told him that his
extraordinary weight was due to the fact that he bore the sins of the world.
Jesus then baptized the large Reprobus in the river and from then on he became
Saint Christopher.
